Is it possible to finish a hobby project?
Is it possible to finish a hobby project?を見て。人事院面接で答えたのと同じことを言っている人が海外にもいた。
So far I have detected the next problems:
- I focus only in the most appealing features to me, and not in getting something working
- I can rarely invest quality time or work more than a few hours in the project
- There’s no external pressure
- I use my hobby projects to experiment with new technologies, so sometimes I write the same program with different languages and/or libraries.
What should I be doing?
- I should define a minimum set of features and focus on them before jumping to more fancy and funny stuff
- I should work on my projects only when I can really invest time (vacations, weekends)
- Put deadlines and give me a prize if I make it
- Experiments are great and needed, but I should do them one by one and not try to test multiple things at the same time
I agree with you. I’ve experienced such a situation. Most important thing is to show our goal to everyone. Focusing on a minimum set of features is good way to realize our path to the goal.
趣味でプロジェクトをやっていると派手な部分にどうしても目を引かれるけど、派手な部分は往々にして最重要な部分ではない。例えばゲームを作るときに、絵や音は派手ではあるが、雑な絵に無音でもゲームにはなる点で最重要ではない。じゃあ何が重要かというと、プログラムを書くことだ。無音に雑な絵でもちゃんとゲームとして成り立っていれば「じゃあ俺が絵を描くよ」とか「俺は音楽作る」という人が着いてくる。しかし、絵とか音楽の断片だけでゲームとして形にならないとゴールが見えないため、プロジェクトは瓦解しやすい。
オリエント急行廃止
時事通信に”「オリエント急行」年内廃止＝コスト高、１２６年の歴史に幕−英紙”とあった。
オリエント急行はアガサクリスティの小説でも有名な、パリとイスタンブールを結んでいた長距離列車である。30年ほど前からイスタンブールには行かなくなり、ウィーン西駅までになっていた。イスタンブールには今でも名残の駅があり、オリエント急行の名を冠したレストランが駅舎の中にある。
最近ではパリまで行かなくなり、ストラスブール止まりになったそうだ。ストラスブールというとほとんどドイツなのかな、かなり東の方だ。
ユーレイルパスでも乗れるらしいから、乗り鉄をするなら今のうちである。
